Heat Wave!

May 15th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Highs in the low-to-mid-90s here at home, making me realize how great it is to work near the water. Actually, it was crazy hot there, too, but a nice shady lunch spot on the water can always beat the heat.

My house likes to retain heat. So it’s 83 degrees outside right now, but it’s probably more like 85-88 inside. Naturally, that makes this the perfect day for me to start playing Wii Fit, right?

I should have bought a house with a pool when I had the chance.

Raining and cold here in my bit of the UK - not sure if that’s better… Actually, lunch in the sun by the water sounds a whole lot better than lunch at my desk while it rains outside…

my pad seems to store up heat in the same way, especially in the evenings. Never seems to do it in winter though…

I might be too european to comprehend the fahrenheit scale. 90? What does that even mean?

  10. DiGiTaL_SiNNo Gravatar Says:

    Two words:

    “Air Conditioning”

  11. GregNo Gravatar Says:

The “Strange Brew” rules for fahrenheit conversion:
    “Double it and add 30″

That works around room temperature, starts to degrade as you move away. As a guess, (90-30)/2 = 30C.

That’s what I’m at here in glorious BC, Canada. But the mountain breezes, lake, (and AC) help ;-)

BTW. Jeff, where’d you get the kickass DP gamer picture?

  13. diggity_danNo Gravatar Says:

I live in Austin, TX. Triple digits are the norm high for summer and aren’t too rare in late spring. :P

    90 deg F = 32 deg Celsius.

  16. JoeNo Gravatar Says:

Dang yo. It’s like in the 50s-60s here.

  17. DaveCNo Gravatar Says:

have you guys considered the fact that some one could get two months of an actual gym membership for the price of Wii Fit? When does a “realistic” game begin to waste so much of our time that we might as well do the real thing?

  18. lepukeNo Gravatar Says:

Yeah but if you had a pool you would totally get your controllers wet.

Stop whining! Here in Cleveland its still in the 50s. It doesn’t get hot here until well into June.

I am not going lie Jeff; its like 77 out right now and dry. :) Beautiful!

In wisconsin it has been around 65 or 70 everyday. I am never moving from the Minnesota/Wisconsin region. I mean a ton of people think that it doesn’t warm up till like July and then gets cold again at the end of august, but we actually start getting warm in early april and then dont really start dipping below 60 as our day time high till mid october.

  23. TuffgongNo Gravatar Says:

It’s a shitty 60 degrees over here. I hate the cold and 80 degree weather would be welcome, because NH cold is a place where balls go to become raisins.

Jeff do you know if Rich Gallup is okay? He doesn’t have to update his blog every weekday or anything but after doing it for so long and stopping for a week I am a bit worried.

Move to Canada. It’s still brisk up in Ontario. We’ll welcome you with open arms up here. It’s only fair. We all flock to California so it’s only right that you migrate NORTH for the summer ;).

  33. bukkookkubNo Gravatar Says:

You don’t know what hot is Jeff. Come up to ND. It’s mind blistering.
off topic- GO RICK FLAIR.> WHOOOOOOOOO.

    Hey Jeff! WHERE’S POINTS!?

  38. DonovanNo Gravatar Says:

Hey, sorry but I haven’t had time to research this on my own, so I thought I would go straight to the authority on this. I am a level headed thirty something people person surviving with a family in this crazy world but have to admit that I have always loved playing video games (the true reality…lol). Always have, always will. Anyway, I was wondering what game is available for the Xbox 360 that would compare to the old games of Gehngis Kahn and Civilization?

I passed out when it was a 104 in Rohnert Park. It was so hot that I went on a two day search for a portable A/C unit (was sold out in most stores).

  44. Tarquinn2049No Gravatar Says:

I know you are super busy and all, but you’re about to hit 60k points… you pretty much have to do a points report when that happens. Maybe that’s your plan already, anyway, looking forward to it.

  45. Tarquinn2049No Gravatar Says:

oh and on the temperature thing, the hottest I’ve ever seen it get here was 40C(104F), but the highest we usually have to worry about is 35C(95F). I’m really only comfortable when the temperature outside is between 10C(50F) and 15C(59F). Basically I just buy a little 40$ disposable AC unit anytime it looks like we’re headed for higher than 35C(95F). It may only last about a week but so does the temperature. The key is to buy it before the heat actually hits, since the first day the heat is actually here the store gets sold out mighty fast. Thought about buying a few and storing them, but that would tempt me to use them at lower temperatures.
