Sluggish

March 30th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

The problem with Wrestlemania (apart from the whole “wrestling is pretty dumb, actually” thing) is that it’s like a four hour show. Now, I still sort of like wrestling and still follow it out of habit. But dude, four hours?

That’s why you need to have people over, so you can all share in the overwhelming feeling of needing to take a nap about 2.5 hours in, which is right around the spot where all the matches start to get really predictable.

Now that I think about it, the heavy night of drinking on Saturday probably didn’t do me any favors, either. When Chris text messages you and says “dude, we’re dropping shots of apple Pucker into half-pints of Sparks,” that doesn’t mean you should immediately order the same thing, 40 miles away, just to see how horrible it is. It’s horrible. End of story.

I upgraded to WordPress 2.5, which probably won’t make any noticeable difference to you, but it changes the back end of this blog pretty dramatically. It’s got a cleaner look that’ll probably be easier to use in the long run, though at the moment it’s a bit confusing because it’s so different.

Back to work tomorrow. We’ll probably shoot a new video early in the week and aim to have it up by Wednesday or so. Since that’s also the camera that films Points!, no new movement on that front until our real camera arrives… which should be any day now.

    Awesome!

    More Points! Coming soon?……….

The last Wrestlemania I saw Brett Hart got his ass kicked by Yokozuna. Ah those were the days — when I was young and impressionable.

Points! among other things this amuses me. Stack those with the bombcast and I really won’t get anything done at home here. =P

Yeah, I am admittedly a wrestling fan. Have been since the days when you weren’t cool unless you were.
These days though I follow it way more reading results online, than actual watching of the shows.
I’ve cut down to two PPV’s a year (One now). I’ve always made a habit to get the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania.
This year I skipped Wrestlemania due to the retarded Big Show vs Mayfield match… it just totally killed it for me.
Maybe some day I will be able to kick this wrestling thing… but then again I’ve always got tapes I bought/made when wrestling was “good”.

Ok, I’m a big wrestling fan and I am not ashamed! Me and some friends ordered Wrestlemania this year and quite frankly, I thought it was awesome. The Money In the Bank just keeps getting better every year, Ric Flair went out in spectacular fashion and on top of that, the Big Show got punched in the face with brass knuckles! The only disappointment was the Tripe Threat match which ended TERRIBLY!

New camera? Weekly live show about upcoming video games with guests and a host?

I think I got kind of board at the same point you did, it did get boring around 2.5 hours.

I think I’ll have to upgrade to 2.5 as well, I’m kind of excited about the Gallery feature they are adding. Is it weird to get excited for a update for a web app?

on the spot sucks a copious quantity of hairy ass since you and most of the old regular crew “moved on”. I hope you guys are cooking up something that gives me another reason to patch my laptop into my tv again.

points’ll be good in the interim. although it’s very hard to explain exactly what I’m watching when my girlfriend catches me - scary extreme close ups WHUT!

I used to love wrestling, but since I got my 360 in November, I haven’t watched any at all! Not even Wrestlemania build-up could bring me back. I don’t even know who was on the card, but I’m assuming Ric Flair had his last match.

Damn, I was hopin’ to get a show of Points! when I noticed the new post.

I heard a rumour that Rich was in your town, and I had the ultimate dream that he would guest host the podcast with yourself, Ryan, Brad and Alex.

Even at the end you would do your alternate call of “GIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT BOMB DOT COMMMMMMMMM!:

    That’s the dream.

You guys are not posting new stuff fast enough! I WANT MORE! :-D Daily updates are a must. Even if there’s nothing to talk about, talk about energy drinks or something (oh right, you already do talk about that)

Also, you guys didn’t comment on my question about why did you guys name the site GiantBomb? (Aside from the CIA/CTU/NSA thing, because I don’t think they’re falling for it)

  11. elektrixxxNo Gravatar Says:

My assumption was that Giant Bomb was just the project name, and the the bomb would “explode” into the fully-fledged site with a new name. I not so sure now ‘coz Jeff mentioned on a video piece gettin’ an animation dude to make bomb related images.

I agree wrestling is loosing my interest. I miss the good ol days of steroid taking, and fat guys who just wailed on each other.

I never was a wrestling fan just because when I was a lot younger my parents told me it was fake and I shouldn’t watch it. But, I had a friend who loved it and every time I said it was fake he would start crying..I guess I’m a horrible person.

The idea of you guys getting a “real” camera has some awesome prospects. I look forward to the new How To Build A Bomb later this week. Keep up the awesome work Jeff, you are A hero.

Not sure whether the title “Sluggish” is in reference to the drawn out Wrestlemania or the general feeling of early Spring. It doesn’t really matter, because I agree regardless.

  16. WeaselNo Gravatar Says:

Haha. You actually still watch Wrestling period? I mean, that part is fine, but, it’s almost gotten to the point where it’s just WAY too overly fake now.

Can’t wait for the next points video. :) Best of luck with Giant Bomb, still tracking them both.

Ah… Wrestlemania… I remember the good old days, back when it was in it’s infancy over here in the UK, and I saw my first one - must’ve been Wrestlemania 6, I think!

I look forward to seeing what the new camera is going to be generating…

  18. JoshNo Gravatar Says:

It is nice to hear that someone who is big in the journalism-gaming industry also enjoys wrestling.

  19. JoshNo Gravatar Says:

Oh and Jeff you should definitley check out Ring of Honor wrestling. Trust me when I say that it truly is the best professional wrestling company today.

  20. OttoNo Gravatar Says:

Yesterdays Wrestlemania was the first one I had watched in a while, and I was pleased with it. But Like you said, its the friends over that make things more interesting.

  21. YatesyNo Gravatar Says:

I stopped watching the wrestling circa 1993 when I turned eleven. Without the likes of Bobby the Brain Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon laying down the law, I don’t really see the point…

What do you think of Viking: Battle for Asgard, as if you’d be confused which Viking I was refering to had I not said the subtitle. Anyway how do you like it? I’ve also been playing it for the past week or so, looking forward to you opinion.

The bit about taking a nap halfway through Wrestlemania was totally hilarious. I feel the same way about the World’s Strongest Man thing on ESPN.

Ric Flair got almost a full page in the Charlotte Observer sports section, the heldline read “FLAIR-OUT”. I live in the Charlotte, NC area, part of the bible belt, or maybe the wrestling belt of America. I follow wrestling by mostly reading now but back in the day, 70’s and early 80’s, I was into it far more. Cooler talk then and now.

  25. KorubiNo Gravatar Says:

I kind of stop at the “wrestling is pretty dumb, actually”

WordPress 2.5 is nice. But yeah, the new interface takes some getting used to.
