The World Warriors Weigh In
February 29th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Before you all run away to spend your weekend passed out in a gutter-oh, wait, that’s just me. Well, anyway, GameTap asked me and a handful of other people that played Street Fighter IV at GDC last week to convey a few thoughts on the game. I happily did so, and you can now read the article for yourself. In case you’re wondering how the match in the photo played out, Alex got beat up. Jared didn’t do a lot of losing that night.

Apparently, you are an American Gladiator.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
American Gladiator? :O
February 29th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
I like how you are an ‘American Gladiator.’
February 29th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
I like how it says “American Gladiator”

So Jeff, what is your favorite drink? Beer? Vodka? Buttery Nipple?
February 29th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
how did the controls feel compared to recent games on the arcade machine? it looks rather fancy.

I still don’t know i think i’m just going to have to play it for my self.
February 29th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
oh one more thing i went to that gravatar site and tryed to make a pic but for what ever reason its not showing up! ahh maybe it just takes some time!
February 29th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
I like how you’re the only visible person not looking at the game in a photo titled “This is what the world is watching.”

They should have asked Alex too… I mean he works for them AND he’s in the picture.

Jeff: Thanks again, man. You were doing pretty well yourself that night, especially considering you didn’t have much time to get used to it. SF4 is a bizarre game at first, but it wound up being pretty great.
Kori911: Actually, funny story. Giancarlo told me to ask him and I was like, “Yeah, good idea. I don’t think I’ve officially met him so you can introduce me.”
Today came and I was like, “HEY! I HAVE A GREAT IDEA! I should ask Alex!” It was a dot dot dot moment. Sucks too, because Alex was pretty great himself. I believe he was back the day after the tournament messing fools up again.
On a sidenote, Jeff’s original title was “Jeff ‘He So Pringles’ Gerstmann,” but it didn’t make past the editing process

I was wondering about your SF fix at GDC, since we hadn’t really heard anything about it until now. Good read dude!
February 29th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Wait, what? Joysticks on the right in the picture? Did they just reverse it?

I must say, I’m not the greatest fighting fan out there. In fact, I have no fighting games in my collection whatsoever so you would think street fighter 4 is nothing for me. However, after reading and researching on it, i must say I am totally looking forward to street fighter 4. It just looks insanely good and it looks like it plays really well. I cant wait to get my hands on this one.

It’s OK Jared. I’ll take it out of your ass one of these days.

Since there aren’t any decent arcades near me anymore (or really anyone in the States…), here’s hoping it makes a console release.
Anyone know what board it’s running on in the arcade version?

I understand your worries about the game Jeff. But a project that makes a great game from yesteryear again relevant can only be hailed as good thing. Bring on the high low blocking strategy.

Why do Nintendo fans get all horny over Super Smash Brothers? It is like a Michael Jackson was inviting all the disney characters over to his house for some special time.

AMERICAN GLADIATOR!! FUCK YEAH!!
March 1st, 2008 at 12:32 pm
You have a very “What the hell did you just say?!” look on your face. Haha.
But, anyway, you ex-GameSpotters seem to really like GameTap. Frankly, if it’s not giving me games to tap into, I don’t really care for it.
March 1st, 2008 at 8:11 pm
wow Jeff, judging by the picture you sure stand out in a crowd! A giant amoung game journalists.

SF IV will be a great game, but SF2 is unique, like Jeff said
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:18 am
Street Fighter IV looks sweet, although I was never really good enough at SF to get into all that in-depth strategy; a few combos were enough for me…
By the way, Jeff, in case you’re interested (chances are high that you’re not), the Games Convention in Germany this year will not be in Leipzig. Köln, aka Cologne, has managed to outbid Leipzig, mostly, however, due to the fact that the convention needed to expand into a bigger arena anyway. So now it’s going to be called GamesCom instead of GC, and will be in the funky old town of Cologne.

Passed out in a gutter, eh? I personally prefer construction sites.
March 3rd, 2008 at 3:38 am
As I see others have noticed; American Gladiator!
I would suggest to you, Jeff, that you try and check out the old English version of Gladiator (of which there are rumours of its returning to our screens soon!). It’s like American Gladiator – but English-ish…
Also, I am hearing that one of the old (English) Gladiators was charged recently for steroid use. I prefer to think that he overdosed on Red Bull and Relentless energy and supplement beverages.
March 3rd, 2008 at 4:00 am
For anyone who read my comment, a correction: The GC will be in Cologne from 2009 onwards, so it will probably still be Leipzig this year…

Woo! hell yeah! American Gladiator!
I like jumping on the bandwagon… I play bass guitar… in the wagon band…
March 3rd, 2008 at 12:06 pm
HEY! Alex Navarro got a job at Gametap!
why did it take me this long to realise it?
Jeff, are you possibly heading down the same road? that would be pretty cool
