Uwe Boll on Red Eye
January 25th, 2008 at 2:24 am
I’m a big fan of Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld on Fox News. Now, this is where you knee-jerk and say "Fox News? Psssssshhhh!" I don’t know, it’s the only show I watch on the network. Anyway, Red Eye is a beautiful and ridiculous mash of celebrity news nonsense and some occasional political nonsense, all rolled up into a panel-type show that has a great seat-of-their-pants feel to it. Lately they’ve been talking a lot about the awesome Australian guy that threw a massive party, got in trouble with the law over it, and now refuses to take off his sunglasses. Earth-shattering stuff.
OK, enough setup. The world’s most mediocre director of bad video game-themed movies, Uwe Boll, appeared on the show this week to promote the Dungeon Siege movie. He also speaks about boxing his critics, dishes a bit about the celebs that have been in his films, and throws a few jabs in at people who play games. You might think he would attempt to pander to his core audience when given the chance. Nope! He already understands that we’ve got no love for him.
Uwe comes off as a dirtbag, but a dirtbag that you can believe in. If you’ve never seem him interviewed before, it’s worth watching. I feel like I understand him a bit better now that it’s clear that he’s 100% in it for the money.
No embeddable video, but the show’s official site is here. Click on Uwe’s face to watch the segment for yourself. It’s up there as of this writing. Then be sure to write them and say that they should book me as a guest, because it looks like the guys that make it are having a ton of fun doing so. I think my only complaint is that the show’s starting to have too many interview segments. It’s more interesting when the guests are involved in the discussion, not just promoting their own junk.
Red Eye airs M-F on Fox News at midnight Pacific, 3AM Eastern, and there’s usually a Saturday show, too, but all this pesky presidential coverage has been preempting it lately.

I actually kinda like the guy, he seems to be rather enthusiastic even though he produces bad movies, that are more or less universally hated, got to respect that he keeps at it at least =)
January 25th, 2008 at 2:59 am
I remember watching the news story about that guy on TV before he got famous. I mean my country needs some new famous guy to add to the pie after the death of Steve Irwin and Heath Ledger we may as well offer this piece of ****

( no edit =( )
If anyone hasn’t seen and want more of the Boll, GT has a rather long interview which is kinda fun:

That’s good stuff. I’ll check it out.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:51 am
Hey Jeff,
That’s an awesome interview. Their like idolizing him the whole time lol. Anyways, when are you planning to get another Points! With Jeff Gerstmann up? I cant wait to see another one. It would be awesome also if you got another hour or so going.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:27 am
while i do appreciate his honesty a lot, the only thing i cant agree on is games not having the story to make a good film, house of the dead could be something great…its just it will have a very low audience count if its heavily game based (ie-his house of the dead take was very modern)
still…for some reason i want to see that dungeon siege movie, mainly for Ron Perlman
January 25th, 2008 at 4:44 am
All I could think about was Alex Navarro’s Dungeon Siege movie review the whole time. Hilarious.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:06 am
Wow, I actually really liked him, and he could be an amazing Wolfgang Puck impersonator if he grew his hair out a little. Their voices and accents are almost identical.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:14 am
Whoa, that guy guy doesn’t give a shit about anything. Punching critics and bashing actors - I actually kinda like the guy now… Good stuff!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 5:16 am
Hey Jeff Gerstmann! I’m glad to see your alive and well and hope to see you on more podcasts and in more game related news.
Take care,
-Josh
January 25th, 2008 at 5:54 am
Great stuff you found there. I heard some interview of it’s actors and they look like they have a mutual non-respect of each other.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:11 am
What a complete ass-clown. I’d like to see him and Paul W.S. Anderson in a steel cage match and totally obliterate each other…the winner of that match would be …all of us!
January 25th, 2008 at 6:14 am
Jeff, that Gutfeld guy is quite conceivably the most annoying man I’ve had to watch in quite a while.
And Uwe Boll is a numnutz, clearly.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Hey,
Jeff, I didn’t know where to put this. I’ve been wanting to mail you for a long time. I was a long time fan of Gamespot, I watched almost every video review, and I was sorry to see you go. Actually, to be honest, I didn’t really care at first, my kneejerk cynical reaction was “Meh. Just confirms that all game websites are on payola”.
But then I thought about it. I had always known that IGN was the gaming equivalent of Pravda (except in this version Ronald Reagan was a good guy, as well as Gorbachev) but I had kept going back to gamespot, because the opinions in the podcasts seemed to speak to my own cynicism for corporate spin. I’m guessing every morning you guys had to wade through press releases before you were allowed to play games, and in the podcasts you at least acknowledged that you WERE GETTING PRESS RELEASES.
I could go on and on for hours about the Fox Newsification of the media, but it’s 2:14am where I am and I’m full of guinness, so I’ll just cut to the chase… Jeff, I’m a kindred soul. I never really found you too funny, mostly because you make the same kind of jokes I do, but man, I felt like you were reviewing games for all the underachieving dropouts like me… And now you’re gone, and it made me feel very sad. So sad that I nearly scripted and shot a machinima about it (complete with soundtrack by Industrial metal band Ministry). So what I’m saying is… Right now I’m on the dole (unemployment) but I am a very creative little beaver who knows lots of big words and can write stream of consciousness manifestos… I want to be part of any caper you come up with. I can’t pass up the chance to “stick it to the man” (and I don’t just mean Bill Gates. Reggie needs to be taken down a peg).
If anything, at least write back to me and be my internet friend.
PS My asl is:
30, living at home with parents, slightly skinnier than you, Melbourne, Australia, and no longer on the whacky tabaccy (I can make deadlines).
Turn-ons: World of Warcraft goth chicks with low self esteem and bad poetry that is short and quick to read, a good Noam Chomsky lecture on the mp3 player, playing Team Fortress 2
Turn-offs: Anyone who enjoys writing CVs and then pretends their favourite movie is Fight Club.
PPS If you ever start a website or project competing Gamespot, can you please call the podcast “On the Pot”? — (you can have lots of Beavis and Butthead samples, giggling and sounds of bongs gurgling)
January 25th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Uwe is about as charasmatic as Ben Mulroney, and twice as much the ass.
Only such a cash-cow hoarding douche like him could ruin something so hideous as butcher the names of some great games through his “take” on their story.
Did you see the discussion Fox had about Mass Effect? I’ve never laughed so hard/been so annoyed with someone so ignorant in all my life.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Man I love Red Eye. If they did a games related episode and had you on as a guest that would be awesome. I’m going to send them an email.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:59 am
He’s UnbelUweBoll…has that been used already? When he was interviewed on GameTrailers.com, I found him to be an okay guy. He just needs to go back to film school and lay off of the video game themed movies. What I don’t get is how his actors don’t do research on him and see that he’s terrible at what he does?
January 25th, 2008 at 9:11 am
That Australian kid interview was hilarious. I read the redeye everyday, but Ive never actually watched it until just today. Uwe seems like a douche, but I guess thats what it takes to make those kind of movies.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:15 am
It’s good to know I’m not the only out there who watches Red Eye. It’s unfortunate the viewer size for both Red Eye and anything Uwe Boll related is on a good day, maybe 9 people?
January 25th, 2008 at 9:20 am
I’ve tried Red Eye a few times, but it still strikes me as too “Fox-y” (note: not “foxy”, which would be okay).
I’ll take the Chelsea Handler Show for my nightly snarky, celebrity-obsessed, panel discussion…
January 25th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Is it just me or does Uwe Boll remind anyone else of the Nihilists from The Big Lebowski. “I FUCKS YOU UP, I TAKES THE MONEY!”
January 25th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Fox News gets a bad rap for it’s editorial content. People don’t understand that O’Reilly and Hannity aren’t there repping Fox’s political stance they are there for satire. CNN has similar figures, just look at Anderson Cooper or that rogue Iraq reporter. If you look to the core of both organizations, it is really hard to trust either. CNN, Ted Turner. News Corp, Rupert Murdoch. Neither guy is trustworthy. Tell me about Turner’s philanthropy all you want he’s a nutjob in politics. I don’t watch very much TV, but if I check news I go to cnn.com and drudgereport.com.
Aside from that hoopla, Uwe Boll is a bad director. You can’t blame the games for not having a storyline.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:56 am
I wrote them and told them to put you on the show. And I have some pull.
January 25th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Uwe Boll is a fucking dirt sack.
January 25th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC is kind of like red eye you should check out. it does tend to lean a bit more on the political stuff but it’s still a fun show.
January 25th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I like uwe, sure he makes bad movies but atleast you can laugh about them while watching them on your computer
but seriously I did enjoy that interview, good stuff.
January 25th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Please listen to Black Flag’s comments ¬¬
January 25th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Anyone who kneejerks at the mention of Fox News helps to prove why Fox News came into existence.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Hey Jeff,
About that Australian Kid who held the party and had the neighbour hood trashed, well I am from Australia and I have to say the kid is an absolute Wanka’ but the media who keeps going on with the subject is just as bad. Anyway my friend found a great website you might want to checkout.
http://www.slapcorey.com/
January 25th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
dude Jeff don’t write Black Flag back, it’s probably a trap
January 25th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Ya, never heard of that show. Maybe I’ll check it out sometime, if I can stay up that late in the Eastern time zone.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Uwe Boll, how I hate him.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
I’m shocked that Uwe made this gig before you did, Jeff. How reliable is this Fox news again?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
And btw jeff i emailed them.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Oh good lord. People in other countries are talking about that absolute knob who threw that big party? I can hardly believe they talk about it down here. It’s one of the most idiotic and non-news things I’ve ever seen.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
i wonder now that alex navarro left gamespot you might work together with him on somthing?
January 25th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
That host seems like a complete ignorant douche.
“GET A GIRLFRIEND GAMER!!!”
January 25th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
hey jeff hope your okay… just wondering if you could help me by telling me what do you use to create your blog website?? sorry i am just trying to blog my thoughts online and i dont want to use the millions of crappy ones that have all catches to them … something nice and simple would be good, similar to yours …. if you could let me know that would be awesome. thanks
January 25th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
That interviewer was a bitch. Why did she keep telling him what to do, it’s not her job. I hope she’s fired. Anyway, keep up the good work Jeff. I hope to see another points video sometime soon. Hopefully the same length as the last one (it was very good). Cheers.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Hey Jeff,
Can you explain to me why people keep giving Uwe Bolle money? There have to be better directors out there. I just feel that an ordinary shmo could make better video game movies than him. His name is worthless now. Why isn’t some up and commer making video game films? Didn’t the Hollywood big wigs say “Well, Blood Rayne was S&*t, guess we should give someone else a shot?” Was there any profit to that film?
Anyway, keep up the good non profit work.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
jeff cheers for the link, that dude looks like such a pill head! “i don’t wanna take my glasses off guy!” love the blog yours and d.jaffe are the only 2 blogs i read. keeping it short and sweet keep up the good work peace !
January 25th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Oh my god . . . I kind of find myself not totally hating this guy . . . It’s almost like he’s so blatantly evil that he’s almost endearing . . . like Skelletor.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
They keep giving Uwe money because his movies keep making a profit. Everyone thinks that movies have to be super hits or win awards to be good in the movie studios eyes. As long as a movie makes more money than it costs to produce, the studios don’t care what kind of trash gets thrown onto the big screen.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I want to know what planet Black Flag lives on.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Why, Kyle? Interested in buying some timeshares here?
January 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Ewe Boll is Satan!
He sneaks into my house at night and plays the Dire Straits album ‘brothers in arms’ backwards. I tell ya, If I ever get my hands on the Boll man….OHHHH!
I’ve played so much burnout paradise…it hurts.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
What an ass. Please go away Uwe Boll before you ruin more games and lives. How dare he say most video games have no story. Just because he has no talent doesn’t mean video games have no story. Screw you, Uwe Boll.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Hey I just saw the shit with gamespot while i was looking through some articles. IM sry to bring it up but you and Alex are really the only guys i actually listened to about reviews. You both seem to know what your tlaking about lol. well man i kno where im going to be getting my reviews now! hey you should start up your own site with some of the good guys from gamespot that are leaving too like alex. just a thought lol. well thx for some amazing reviews and ill be back for more! Sincerely Mike
January 25th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I’m sorry I can’t stand that prick. Seriously how can he possibly be such an idiot and not want to inflict pain upon himself? I can’t express how much I’d like to put a crow bar to his skull.
January 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
While some may admire Uwe Boll, I am of the opinion that someone big and heavily muscled should kick him repeatedly in the testicles for churning out the absolute tripe that he does.
January 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
A lot of video games have “no story”
Right Uve replace the no story with an even worse story and bad directed acting put onto film! You know what you doing, take of every zig!
January 26th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
How can you hate uwe boll? Sure, he is a horrible director, but he is the fucking man!
January 29th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Interesting that you admit you watch Red Eye. Several months back, I started a forum post at GS on how I’d been watching the show and an email from someone named Jeff Gerstmann, San Francisco, was read. I thought maybe it was a coincidence or a someone borrowing your name, but now I’m a little more convinced that it was from you. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
