Points! 01/15/2008
January 17th, 2008 at 2:38 am
Yeah, I know, it’s the 1/15 video and today is 1/17. I’m still messing around with different video hosts. Turns out Vimeo is currently having some trouble with files over 400MB, so I had to re-render it and upload it a third time, blah blah blah. But I like three things about it:
A) The quality seems better than most video hosts.
B) Viewers don’t need to install a crazy plugin to watch it (unlike Stage6).
C) Anyone who wants to see it but can’t stream for one reason or another can download the original file. That means you should be able to watch it on a PS3 or 360, if that’s your thing.
Now if it just didn’t take eight hours or more just to upload and process one (large-ass) file…
Anyway, stylin’ video is below:
That’s the first auto-generated video thumbnail I’ve been happy with in some time. It just says “ooooooooooooh.” Anyway, if you have trouble streaming it here, kick it on over to my page on Vimeo and you could download it in divx format.
This one somehow got to be over an hour, which some of you have said isn’t an issue. Let me know if you watch the whole thing, and if not, how long you think these things should be. I’m still playing around with the format and the frequency of these.
One new thing you’ll notice is that I’ve collected some of the questions that have come in and answered them in the video. I’d like to do more of this in the future. I’ll probably install some question submission form here on the site, or maybe just post an e-mail address.
[ERRATA] I mention that Gaiares was the first 8-meg Genesis game. That, of course, is incorrect. It was Strider, a game I bought for $80 and beat the same day, feeling totally ripped off in the process.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:41 am
Awesome.. always good to hear from yah Jeff
January 17th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Yeah it was totally awesome felt more like 30 mins, btw the credits is one of the best parts about the video, so longer credits are always fun.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:31 am
Great video blog Jeff. Love hearing your views on the gaming/tech world
January 17th, 2008 at 3:36 am
Longer the better.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:39 am
I thought that an hour was great, the longer the better. Good to see you still on games. I was going to ask if you wanted a game of GH3 some time but as you’re in the USA, it’s all about Rock Band it seems.
We still don’t have it here in the UK. Anyway, keep posting!
January 17th, 2008 at 3:40 am
just woke up. Gotta go do a quick thing and when I come back I´ll watch it, downloading now.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:54 am
i live in the uk and i dont “get” swos… i played if for like 10 minutes and said “thats dumb”
January 17th, 2008 at 4:02 am
good vid nice to hear your alive.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:26 am
We DID stare at rocks before the internet came around, well at least I know I did.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:31 am
Watched it start to finish, if you really want to know. Loved every minute of it (not every second though).
Keep it up!
I hope you PS3 is all right.
Peace.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:32 am
I totally agree with you the whole movie thing though it seem like that you are a bit more extreme about than me
I have no problem following a TV series like Family Guy, The Office or Prison Break for that matter.
I love watching a great movie but every 30-45min I go check on how much time there’s left. Dunno why really maybe it’s because I feel like you and don’t always think that its worth the time investment.
And by the way get EoJ if you gonna get a PSeye or whatever it’s called nowadays.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:34 am
I think the length of the rapport is alright and I love the “Jeff answers YOUR questions!. You should make some special effects like a splash or something.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:58 am
Keep it up! Liked the DualShock review at the end.
Hope to see more soon!
January 17th, 2008 at 5:01 am
If sharing is still giving you grief, check out TVersity (http://tversity.com/home) - It’s a little bit quirky in interface, but give it 10 minutes to set up, and it’ll Just Work, on pretty much any device, be it a 360, ps3 or other.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:11 am
I watched the whole thing! Very cool.
In terms of music composition software, Logic Pro’s good if you have a Mac, but until I can afford one, FLStudio does the job. ProTools is a headache :/
Oh, and here in Australia, release dates can be quite evasive also. Rock Band is still “TBA 2008″ here, and so many games on Steam can’t even be bought here…
Keep up the effort.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:13 am
As soon as I get a chance I have no doubt I’ll watch the entire thing - an hour is definitely not a problem!
January 17th, 2008 at 5:13 am
“I have a hard time concentrating on…”
Me too, although I’m currently blaming YouTube for its plentiful short videos for that.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:18 am
The Saturn wasn’t exclusive at launch to KB Toys. It was also available at Electronics Boutique and several other retailers.
But, yeah, excluding quite a few major retailers, including Wal-Mart, from the Saturn’s American launch was one of many things that ensured that the console would be stillborn.
Also, Strider, not Gaiares was the first 8-meg game.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Great, thanks for a new video so soon.
I haven’t watched it yet, but I have the attention span to sit through 60 minute Points! video. But a half-an-hour show would be fine if you could post them more frequently doing a shorter show.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:30 am
I enjoyed it at an hour long so do more like this, and the thing about europe release i live in the uk so we have to wait for them to translate a game to a language we don’t need and we end up getting the same game as the us just pal.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:50 am
An hour-long video does not bother me whatsoever. But it’s maybe too long for some people. I think 30 to 40 minutes is the way to go.
Great video by the way !
January 17th, 2008 at 5:50 am
I heard there coming out with a effects machine for Rock Band that has smoke and lasers. Totally rad or totally not rad?
January 17th, 2008 at 5:53 am
I enjoyed the video overall, but I found myself losing interest around the 30 minute mark. I’d suggest that as your mark.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:08 am
watched the whole thing. Dunno why really. But yeah, good show I guess.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:11 am
Great stuff. Downloading it now.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:19 am
Hey Jeff, you may have figured this out (or have a different prob), but I found out that the DIVX videos only work when you connect to your PC via the Video section in the Media Blade, it doesn’t seem to work (certainly not I my box) when I try to connect via the Media Centre connection - it doesn’t see any DIVX videos at all in fact when you look at this way.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:32 am
Watched the whole thing, oh the joys of unemployment. Nice credits. I’m looking forward to when the releases pick up so there will be more current stuff to chat about. It’s funny because I found myself agreeing about your comment on time investment and movies/ lack of interactivity, then I spent a whole hour on my ass watching this
January 17th, 2008 at 6:47 am
Nice “points” report all you said were interesting and i think the lenght was perfect enough as it is.
However i got a business idea for ya!
you and rich gallup creates a podcast i would totally subscribe to that for 20$ a month or so it would be awesome!
January 17th, 2008 at 6:56 am
Hey my question was the first to be answered! Cool!
If you have the time and patience to listen to some of the music stuff I do/did go to : http://www.mp3.com/artist/guslanzetta (I know it is a CNET website and all, but whatever).
It would be really neat if you could give me some pointers on how to improve my FL Studio skills and such.
anyways my AIM usernamething is guslanzetta and my email is the one on this comment that you can see through the WordPress dashboard stuff.
Thanks,
Bye
January 17th, 2008 at 6:59 am
20 mins in, and its good to know your still funny! my only wish is that you release an mp3 version alongside the video.
keep it up!
January 17th, 2008 at 7:05 am
Woo More points!
Congrats on 55 and shine up that icon boy!
January 17th, 2008 at 7:09 am
Dang I still can’t view or even go to your Vimmo page to download it.
Personally I’m always good with Youtube. Heck you can even watch those on your Wii, not that I would because that would mean I would have to turn it on. Which means I probably have at least 2 updates waiting for me.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:12 am
Quite honestly I would prefer Stage6. Great quality and all you need plugin wise is the latest version of Divx. You can go all the way up to 1080p. There are even ways to get a direct download link for the file. Maybe you should turn this into a tradition podcast with H.264 and AAC audio in a MP4 container. Then create a feed and put it on iTunes.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Bandana FTW.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:28 am
its a bit to much.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Nice show Jeff.
An hour is not that long at all. Hehe, my ps3 hasent frozen on the music player yet. But it did freeze while playing The orange box (Portal for the 13th time) Then again…it had been on for like a week, sooo….
Anyway, saw a question by Mr John Lewis here. I i would like to hear your answer to that. smok and light while playing Rock Band. A few Coronas…Damn…thats a gig
Anyway… Looking forward to the next show
Salut from Norway
January 17th, 2008 at 7:45 am
I watched the whole thing and i think the longer the better man, because i look forward to what you think about games dude.
oh yeah and sweet bandana jeff
January 17th, 2008 at 7:53 am
hey Jeff, I watched the whole vid. good stuff, keep it up!
January 17th, 2008 at 7:59 am
It’s cool, cause you do it like a podcast, so i can turn it on and just phaze out and look at something else (teh multitask skeelz!). Have you concidered just releasing the audio aswell? I can imagine there being a “market” for it, but what do i know.
As always, great to hear your voice and great to do nothing and just listening for some time.
Oh, anyway. what’s running on your TV? Is that a screensaver of sorts? It looks really epic, and i prolly should get one myself!
January 17th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Yes, I watched the whole thing and while the length didn’t bother me, I can see why you’d want it to be a little shorter.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Well, thanks for giving me something to watch this morning. Now, I must play some more paradise demo.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Awesome Jeff, watched the whole thing. Keep em coming!!!
January 17th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Hey Jeff - Long time Fan (5 yrs but anything I pay attention to for longer than a year is long time for me). I’m glad to see that you’re out on your own and now that you have this lovely little blog I feel motivated to actually comment.
Pardon the back-handed compliment but, as a gamer myself that remembers gaming in the 80’s, its great to see someone who knows what they are talking mix those references into contemporary journalism (if that is in fact what you would call what you do now) I personally would love to see that incorporated into Points in a Family Guy-esque sort of way. (So I was playing Game X which reminded me of the time when… cue obscure reference that makes us laugh are arse off).
Anyway I love the vid and I definitely watched the entire hour… although I’m at work so I technically got paid to do it…jk… or am I?
The best to you and Alex and the rest of that group out there in Cali, if you guys ever come to New York I’m the dude asking you to sign my Rock Band Guitar (If I ever get one that works)
January 17th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Awesome show Jeff.
What screensaver program did you have runnin in the background?
January 17th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Ok, so I’m downloading 400MBs worth of Jeff’s moving face. I probably shouldn’t tell my psychiatrist this…
Anyway, I always enjoy listening to what you have to say and is by no means discouraged by such a lengthy video.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Excellent video, Jeff. Very few people could talk so engagingly over an hour about this stuff, please keep it up. Thanks.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:00 am
An Hour long nice. I think you should do it as a podcast if they are going to be this long in future. Most of Points! is more audio than video.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:02 am
Salame, Jeff.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Your comment on game releases in Europe was right on the button; As a European I appreciate the sympathy!
The length of the points report was great and I didn’t feel at all antsy during it, although, naturally, some multitasking went on…
January 17th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Points is always entertaining i watched the whole thing. any way i just turned into a vampire in Oblivion and i really have to go take of that. love the show great job Jeff!
January 17th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Yes I watched all 63 minutes of your video, and I may watch it again, becasue OMG you talked about a ton of stuff today Jeff! This is what i got the first go around : Movie theaters bad (True), Home theaters good (Agreed), Sega Genesis GREAT (UH…YEAH!), anything else Sega garbage (Never bought anything else so, yes?).
Unfortunatly I am one of the few who actually played the Burnout demo and have decided to not purchase the game only on the fact of what you said about this being a “Friend” heavy game. I honestly only have one person in real life that I play games with occasionally, the downside to living in Naples, FL is that there are a lot of rich, snobby kids, or rich snobby old people, no regular 24 year old dudes/dudettes. I am sure the single player will be great, but i realize that the online is where it is at with this title. I believe its AMAZINGLY kool how easy it is to get into an online game in less than 15 secs. but unfortunalty i have no friends *cry*….whatever. Anyway, I know this is a LONG comment and I havent actually commented before, but i think its still awesome that you are keeping in touch with your fan base and can’t wait to hear you on a podcast again. Ok so to end this long post, to a long Points! report, a question about broken systems/games/equiment.
If you, say, had a broken 360 or Rock Band controller, would you be willing to pay extra money to ensure that you recieved a brand new replacment instead of a refurbished one? And, how much would you be willing to pay?
I understand the morality issue of “I already paid $400 for this equipment, i’m not paying more to the people who sold me a faulty one!” But if the option was available would you do it. If you asked me before I got my 360 I would of said No Freaking Way, but since I am on my fifth one now (with this one now having a hard time reading discs) I would not have a problem paying $10-$20 to guarantee me a new system.
All right thats it, sorry I wrote so much, but your report hit a lot of topics that I enjoy talking about, thanks Jeff. =)
January 17th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Mmm. Another luke-warm Xbox Live Arcade port? Smells like Digital Eclipse and Backbone Entertainment.
I have the same problem too, Jeff. I don’t really watch TV or movies as much because it feels like…
“Well, I could go in to the living room and focus on just one thing… or I could sit on the computer and be doing 5 or 6 things at the same time.”
Except now it’s starting to extend even to videogames. My PC isn’t the hottest on the block so generally, unless I play my 360 through VGA, I have to leave the PC to go play a game, too, and I just get so caught up in all the multitasking I just never feel like going off and booting up my Gamecube to finish Twilight Princess or Resident Evil 4.
I’m glad somebody else sees the Sonic thing from the same perspective. Sonic was Sega’s flagship character. He was the lead franchise that helped carry the Genesis to where it got to. And then just a couple years ago you’ve got a Sega rep saying “we don’t think of Sonic as our mascot anymore, he’s just another Sega property” when he was one of the founding fathers for Sega’s most prosperous era in gaming.
And they’ve basically thrown him in to the same boat Namco put Pac-Man in to, where he’s just there because of his legacy and because people go “oh, Pac-man, I remember that. Sure, I’ll buy Pac-Man World Rally.”
I don’t understand how they could do that. Mario’s managed to stay relevant. Why can’t Sonic? As somebody who is - or was - a pretty hardcore Sonic fan, most of Sega’s recent handling of that franchise is like watching your best friend from highschool get hit by a bus. Over and over and over again.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Great show Jeff really enjoyed it, and I totally feel the multi tasking TV thing, most TV is only good for a background noise filler.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
thanks for the heads up on Vimeo, I’ve been looking for a better way to publish video as well.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I didnt watch it all, but i did listen to it all.
I had this running in the background, while playing Total war, and it actually worked greats as a kind of podcast.
Maybe you should consider releasing it as a podcast on itunes, I would love to be able to bring it along on my ipod.
but whatever you do, then keep going this is really great.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Hey, Jeff
First off, I have no interest in “points”, since I don’t have a 360; but I still find this series to be very entertaining to watch (listen to, really). You share some very insightful thoughts on many things. I like listening to your reflections on why Sega failed, etc. This informal format you’ve chosen is superior to just about any podcast/show I’ve heard, and I’ve heard pretty much all the well-known ones.
What I don’t like about this Flash-player, is that I can’t, for example, jump into the middle of the video before that part is pre-loaded, like you can do on YouTube. This means that it’s not very convenient for me to just watch half of it now, and then the rest later without waiting for it to load halfway through.
The site is pretty nifty-looking, too, except for the eye-jarring lines on the right.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:05 am
I watched all of it.It was good but id say about 45 minutes is how long they should normally be. Now here about 3 questions
A) Do you see halo turning into a game like UT since their story is over? (And their multi player is all the
rage.)
B)Could Microsoft Buy EA and if so would that be domination and shut down their competition,Also Would that that give them more money than they already have?
C) Would call of duty 5 be more effective as just a add on to multi player for cod4
January 17th, 2008 at 10:13 am
So I’m going to take the plunge and start playing Diablo II again, after six years off. Have any recommendations on what type of hardcore character I should make? Even after so many years, I cannot recall every having the feeling of excitement and accomplishment as finally beating the game on the hardest difficulty in hardcore. Permanent death FTW!
January 17th, 2008 at 10:21 am
I just watched woke up.. grabbed some breakfast .. sat down and watched the episode in it’s entirety..
Absolutely no problem with the length…
Dude.. if it was 3 hours long I’d be like.. sweet.. 3 hours of Points and general gaming talk and such.. I like..
Anyway yeah man.. make it as long as you want.. just talk until it feels like you don’t want to talk about anything else and whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 hours… whatever.. lol.
Oh the fact that your PS3 died at the end.. classic.. haha.. seriously that was great.. hope it’s ok though..
Sorry about all the … it’s just my way of breaking up thoughts while typing franticly cus .. yeah.. that’s just how I do it…
Hey one question… Are you thinking of changing your Xbox Live GamerTag at all because I know you mentioned it earlier on and I was thinking of maybe hitting you up with a friend’s invite since we play some of the same games and you know.. it would be fun to play some games and shoot some dudes and whatever.. but I figured it you were going to change your GamerTag I’d just wait a bit.
Just wondering.. alright this is long enough
Ciao!
January 17th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Awesome morning, waking up to find a new episode waiting for me. Watched the whole thing and I hope you keep it up.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:37 am
My ps3 has the same problem and it happened a lot. I watched the full hour and I want more. I also have a question what is your favorite current-gen console?
January 17th, 2008 at 10:38 am
I watched every minute of it. It’s a great show, Jeff. Nice work.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Well, i watched it all. Great stuff.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Yes! something to watch while I eat lunch. I was contemplating watching the movie of shenmue 1 that came with shenmue 2.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
sweet, love me some points updates. i feel the same exact way about watching movies. i’d just rather be interacting with someone or playing a game of some sort. like you, i don’t watch all that much tv. one solution, though is to netflix some top notch shows. i can’t recommend The Shield highly enough…that show is friggin’ addictive. and coming in at 50 minutes or so an episode, i don’t feel like a complete layabout when i watch it. which is weird because i don’t feel guilty for having just watched an hour of your points update.
and i’d just like to say that i really hope the next mass effect isn’t as disappointing as this one was. i was really looking forward to that game. seems like they tried to make it too many things…the vehicle exploration just felt really shoddy and tacked on to me. climbing near vertical cliff faces to collect mineral resources and do collection quests is just boring…i know, i know, i don’t HAVE to do it, but being all OCD with game completion is part of the fun. i would have preferred some sort of Star Control 2-esque minigame or something. now THAT was an awesome game. jesus, i’m getting old.
and, thanks to your last points update, i am now a COD4 addict. annoying that they don’t tie any of the points to multiplayer, but whatever…still completely rad.
anyway, thanks for the vid.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
I actually watched the full hour, but I was actually playing my new PS2. Yea that wasn’t a type-o, I just bought my first PS2 ever yesterday, which gives me all 3 consoles from the last generation. I figured now was as good a time as any to get through games like Shadow of the Colossus and Ratchet Deadlocked.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Great to see you again Jeff. Funny and informative as always.
One hour is not to long really, since you had something to talk about the whole time. I think you should just make the videos, and see how long they become. Might not go far over the 60 minutes mark though. But somewhere around that sounds good.
And just for the heck of it, I have a question for you!
What is your take on the Fallout games?
I am a huge fan of Fallout 1 and 2 myself, and I always think it’s interesting to see what people like you think about the things I like (by people like you I mean “famous” people who kinda rock. You know, great music artists, authors and game journalists)
January 17th, 2008 at 11:03 am
i too have no problems with if being an hour…
January 17th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Kirstie Alley’s hot.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Hello Jeff, I watched the whole episode, I did not think it was to long, it’s amazing how you can talk for over an hour, and still leave wanting more.
I just picked up a copy of mlb power pros yesterday for the wii at circuit city, after trying five other stores.
There is a wii remote mode, but it’s more of an exibition. On the other modes, it’s more old school, “a”
button timing. The game supports all controllers for the wii. I also enjoyed hearing you talk about Ken Griffey for the snes, loved that game.
Keep up the great work, look forward to seeing more of it.
One question, did you play both versions of Legend of Zelda TP for the wii and gamecube, and if so would you recommend playing both versions? thanks
January 17th, 2008 at 11:24 am
JEFF! the black level on your tv looks amazing even through a camera :O
January 17th, 2008 at 11:34 am
great - an hour is definately not too long however i had this on at work and cranked up the volume and got on with my work - personally id prefer it if it was an audio podcast so i can listen on my ipod instead of an hour long video which to tell the truth - no offence meant - isnt the most exciting to watch. topics are great - i enjoyed everything which was said, i just personally prefer audio podcasts.
but thats just me. anyway thanks for the vid
ps is it me or is the last level no cod4 (the one on the plane) on veteran difficulty have too much a harsh time limit. i keep running out of time when i get to to the top of the stairs. so frustrating!
January 17th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Hi Jeff.
Hope all is well in your darkend house:
How wierd is this?:–>

January 17th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Hey Jeff, just some thoughts on Points: A video of 60 minutes is fine, provided there’s interesting stuff happening. As it is right now, I kind of listen to it in the background as a podcast, whilst doing other stuff. Why not make it podcast-like and include Alex in it or something for banter?
Just a thought.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Damn this is awesome! You are fucking awesome bro. Keep it up. I look forward to your vidcasts.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:46 am
If you’re gonna have a 60+ min show, at least have some interesting cuts and different angles or something.
In this webcam format I’d keep it to 15 mins max.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:52 am
My ps3 has locked up on my a few times, but mine is the cheap 40gb version that just came out.
And just for reference that thing was longer than most episodes of the hotspot. Madness
January 17th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Awesome stuff! Great show. 60 minutes is not a problem.
Keep up the good work.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Hey
Just watched the full hour. So yeah i’m probably pretty crazy but i thought it was good/interesting/’funny at times’.
Imho i think Points should stay as a video blog vlog thing and not a audio podcast, simply because that’s how it started, that’s what Points is. I think the length was okay, though 30-45 mins would probably be better.
Anyways keep up the good work Jeff.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:56 am
That was a good video. And when I saw you smelling your Dual Shock 3, I was all “oooo” because that’s what I did when I got it. Mine also smells like burning electronics and I haven’t used it in quite a while because of Rock Band, but it still smells like that.
Also when I first opened it the controller itself had a weird smell to it… I don’t know if that’s what japanese shipped hardware smells like all the time… but it was weird.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Dude, Gaires was the first 8 meg game, Strider was advertised to be the first, but Gaires had been in Japan longer, so it’s more a question of geography and importing, and what counts in your mind. I imported Strider (for like $120) 8 months before it came out in the US, but Gaires had been out for even longer in Japan, so I guess it’s a wash.
Stompers were cool, just keep them out of human hair, I’ve seen the bald spots to prove it. And why did they make a playset for Stompers? The whole point was to have them crawl over books and stuff in your house, a plastic shitty mound with a crappy log was lame compared to everything else.
The whole KB/Saturn debacle was made worse by KB getting back at Sega by not carrying the Dreamcast. I asked a KB store manager once and he said they took such a bath with the Saturn that they refused to carry anything for a Sega product again. Way to run a business. Maybe they should settle it after school.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Hey Jeff, have you thought of making this a video podcast? (the files could be smaller and I could watch it on the bus!)
itunes (as you probably know) doesn’t charge to index podcasts, so you could just add it.
Just a thought.
Paris.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I watched the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. I think all points reports should be that long if you can make them.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
I’m convinced buying a PS3 is entirely worth it for the screen saver alone!
January 17th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
great to see you back on the web jeff. and yes that was an hour and yes we all watched it. keep it up.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
The more the merrier I say! Nice one Jeff!
January 17th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I know there is at least one other person with me but probably in the minority..
KEEP IT A VIDEO JEFF!!
I mean sure you can do a podcast version too if you like.. but I like watching the facial expressions and stuff..
Plus it’s better that you can go hey.. lets talk about this new controller.. and then show it to the camera and we are like ooo.. new controller.. and then watch you sniff it.. that’s funny.. it’s better to see it..
And not to mention.. looking at your semi shocked state when your PS3 choked..
You were kinda looking back and forth between the camera and the TV and kinda fidgeting with the buttons…
ALL of that is stuff that’s humorous and entertaining to watch as well as listen..
Part of what made GAMESPOT good ..actually .. ALL that made it good .. to me at least.. was the VIDEO Reviews.. and ON THE SPOT..
I didn’t listen to the podcasts and stuff .. wasn’t interested..
Again.. maybe I’m in the minority.. but VIDEO is the way to go..
I liked what you did today a great deal.. make it as long as you want to .. talk about whatever… be yourself .. it’s all good man.
Ciao!
January 17th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
k, just watched the full thing and loved evey minute of it. always video and make them as long as you have time for and feel like talking … I could go for weekly
January 17th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I watched the whole thing. You have the ability to not bore people out of their minds, which is a pretty good quality I think. I’d watch it no matter how long it is.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I watched the whole thing love watching your vids. You should make them more often(like every day!:)) even if it’s just a quick 5-10 mins vid.
January 17th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
awesome, an hour show is just about right
January 17th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I watched the whole thing.
When are you going to change your Gamertag? GameSpotting doesn’t really make sense anymore.
January 17th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Just finished watching the whole Points! report. I enjoyed it in it’s entirety and the length wasn’t really a problem. Since it’s just a camera pointed at you in a dark room- it might as well be an audio blog and I treated it as such. I agree with everyone who has said that they don’t really care what length these are, anywhere from a few minutes to as long as you can talk, so just keep it up.
January 17th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Loved it longer the better. Your great infront of the camera and seeing you makes me feel like my regular gaming week of hotspot and ots is back! and that makes me a very happy panda!
keep at it jeff
January 17th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Nice to hear and see you again! it didn’t feel like an hour, I realised I had been watching it for about 45 min. until I checked the clock…nice that you talked about everything, specially about old consoles and games instead of topics like meaningless graphic comparisions between PS3 vs 360 LOL…. best wishes from Sweden
January 17th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Hey Jeff, great video, I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it in its entirety. I completely agree about CES. I don’t need multiple days and pages of web coverage to tell me that HDTVs still look good but are now thinner.
Also, I too went nuts over the first gen of the Sega CD stuff. Night Trap was a revolution…at least it seemed that way at the time. A friend of mine bought the 32x and all we ever played on it was that Star Wars game. I think that’s the only game he even ended up buying.
Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to the next episode! You shouldn’t have mentioned that whole DualShock 3 smell thing. Now when I get one that’s all I’ll be able to think about!
January 17th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I’m only a little bit in (enjoying, so far)
but let me get this straight…
Your complaint of new movie/shows, is that you have to acctually WATCH them?
lol
January 17th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I don’t have a problem with a 60 minute episode as I can multitask and have 3 games of call of duty 4, 6 IM’s and listen to Bill Hicks all while watching points! No staring at rock for me
January 17th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
This was a awesome Points! keep it up. The 1hr wasn’t too long for me but then I have no life.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Great vid, watched the whole thing….or listend would seem more accuarate. Great blog.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I watched the whole thing. Good Job! Looking forward to the IGN video.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Too long?
I says it’s too short. I look forward to the next one.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Great video blog once again Jeff.
When is Midnight Brown’s 4th album coming out?
January 17th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
The longer the video the better, over an hour is great.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Good show! It would probably be good at half an hour but if you’re on a roll, no need to stop talking.
January 17th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Great video. I’m not too interested in points but I’ve missed your thoughts and opinions on the industry. Oh and as a European I appreciate your acknowledging how we get shafted
January 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
What were you playin on your ps3 the whole time??? Looks like the music screen but with a wierd visualisation
January 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Hey Jeff,
i also watched the whole thing, it’s interesting and amusing as always. If you’re gonna do ‘em in this length however, or anything that’s over 30 minutes, i suggest offering an audio only version for download as well so we can listen to it on the go.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Great video Jeff, nice stuff on ‘greatest console ever’ debate. An hour is maybe a bit long for it to be standard but I watched it on my Xbox 360 and I’d watch another one.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Awseome, I hope you do thease more regualr again (hopefully even more then you used to with like one every couple months)
.
And the more the better make um even longer in my opinion
January 17th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
So is heroin bad but burnout is good?
January 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Hey Jeff did you hear about audiosurf? Well its a game you surf your on music too. It’s kind of like Guitar Hero but not really. Check the website out. There a beta this weekend.
http://www.audio-surf.com
January 17th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Thanks for the detailed answer about SEGA, Jeff. I agree with you, the SEGA from today shares just its name with the old SEGA that we all love.
Video is great, you should make this a weekly live show and make it interactive like On the Spot. I can guarantee that most people will choose to watch your show live instead of Gamespot’s. Pretty impossible to do that, right? Anyway, I’m tracking your blog everyday and looking forward to next video.
Peace!
January 17th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Nice video btw, keep em coming. Here another link to audiosurf, cause the first one dot work

January 17th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Really enjoyed this episode. Loved hearing your thoughts on Sega and PS1 plus all the other stuff.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
I was wondering when I watched the video and I noticed others commented on it too: is that a screensaver running in the background or what?
What is it / Where can I get one?
January 17th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Well, I did watch all of it… But I wouldn’t say “watched” as much as listened. I knidda treat this show like an MP3, I keep it playing and listen to it while I do other stuff.
Great show Jeff! and don’t worry about the 1 whole hour thing; there is no such thing as “too much Jeff”.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Hey Jeff, great show but a bit too long for my taste. anyway, I have a question I hope you will answer:
what is your most anticipated game(s) for 08?? (other than Burnout)
January 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Jeff, I signed up to Vimeo just so that I could download the full Divx file to watch on my telly. And yes, I watched it all. Good stuff
I like what you do, and I like most things games related too. A happy way to spend an hour, really! Cheers…
January 17th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Hey Jeff, half an hour would be the perfect spot i reckon for a points video.
I saw that Mac Book Air preview before watching, and it looked amazingly appetizing until I realized there was no optical drive built in!
Keep on blogging!
January 17th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Good stuff, I watched the entire hour. The length is okay though a twenty minute show done more often (say, biweekly?) would be awesome too.
January 17th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
I might be in the minority, but I’m of the opinion that going over an hour is a little too long if you’re going to do this weekly and by yourself. I kinda quit watching at the end during the emails because you started to ramble a little too much. I would either tighten it up, or have a co-host (Alex doesn’t seem to be doing anything at the moment haha) to talk to make the extra time go by.
That said, it’s great to hear from you, and I look forward to the next one! Keep it classy, brother!
January 17th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I watched the whole thing, especially loved the rambling.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Jeff, never mind those malcontents who accuse you of “rambling”, and hit us with as much Points! love as you can muster.
I have a question which might not be suitable because it’s not games related, but, mate, it’s killing me… is there ever going to be another Midnight Brown album? Yes/no/perhaps will suffice! I will be listening to Midnight Brown’s first three albums for the rest of my life.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
I’d like a mp3 of this and your future ones just because I like to be able to turn off my PC and listen to it on my mp3 player.
Anyways keep up the awesome blog, I’m enjoying it.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Awesome points report Jeff. Glad to hear from ya. I wish all of them were an hour long. Keep it up.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Ooh, also take a look at S.C.A.T. for NES, very much like Omega Five, and it’s even made by Natsume too!
Sorry for the multiple posts.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Wow Dualshock 3
January 17th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Watched it all the way through - I’m at work, so it sure beats actually doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Never checked out that Vimeo before, but it’s pretty cool. It’s nice to see streaming HD video that actually works (something I always liked about On The Spot - but best not talk about that.)
Keep up the good work Jeff.
P.S. No comment or nod about Alex leaving Gamespot? Come on, there’s no litigation, you can tell us how you feel about it.
January 17th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
man Jeff, awesome to see you up and kicking it

…I just discovered your blog.
I was really upset on the decission makers at gamespot for kicking you out, no matter what was the actual reason, its just not right to kick someone out of the job whos been working there so long.
Wish you all the best, man, keep it up.
Dunno if you actually saw it, i wrote you a pm to your gamespot account back when all the shake was going on (my username was tommosaur there), in case you replied to it: I won´t see the reply because i don´t log in to Gamespot anymore (i feel sorry for the Gamespot editors crew but i hope they leave and you all get your own stuff together instead of working under such morons).
Anyway, wish you all the best man, keep it up, i enjoyed your video podcast
January 17th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Hey Jeff! Awsome video! Ive got a question for your next one.
Do you remember me from Gamespot?
January 17th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
It is rambling but it’s good to hear from you Jeff. I listened to all of it and honestly I’d do it again.(not literally the same show but another one)lol
January 17th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I loved it. watched the whole thing. Keep it up Jeff
January 17th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
You da fuckin man Jeff, keep it up!
January 17th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Now that I’ve watched the entire thing, I have some vital comments to make.
Hearing about Sega’s story always makes me sad, except when I see what they’re doing to their games today.
On the comment for your hypersensitive nose, I essentially have no sense of smell. If you ever need someone to clean up something incredibly smelly and I’m in the area, I’ll be your man…err…woman.
Also, a question: Do you have any guilty pleasure games. If so, which ones are your favorites?
January 17th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
great vid jeffrey. watched it all. you covered some stuff (like the old systems) that would not be news-worthy on a lot of websites. i had a mega CD. i loved road avenger (despite it’s lack of any control) and sonic CD. always wanted to play ground zero: texas and night trap especially but never got around to it.
you mentioned jumping flash! i was racking my brain the other day trying to think of the name of that game. it’s on the bundled demo disc for the PS1. what an original game. gave me butterflies during those massive jumps. that and battle arena toshinden = memories!
i didn’t know you were into music producing hey. you’re right, it doesn’t matter what software you use, it’s about how you use it, since software doesn’t make music, people do
some of the most incredible tracks (i’m a trance head) have been written on now obsolete software using thinkpads, so there you have it. i’m on cubase sx.
what else… man i’ve learned a lot about you since your old job. these objective opinions of yours are exactly what i want when reading about games, and, just about anything.
good work! and keep them at 1 hours length. it’s an hour of me not being on msn! the corporate money counters’ needs hey… they brought me to this blog, so there!

I can’t believe I watched all of that…It was cool, but long. It would be better if you had shorter videos more often. At least I think so. Hope all is well with you and the fam Jeffsy.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
I used my Xbox 360 Vision camera with the PS3 demo of Burnout Paradise and it worked great. I suggest you try it, Jeff! That’ll save you some dough. Of course, who am I to stop you from buying a camera made for the PS3?
Thanks for your insight. I look forward to another installment (?) of points.
Take care, Jeff. Say hi to Alex N. for me!
January 17th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Awesome stuff. I watched the whole thing. I think it’s great you talk about every system now, and theres finally someone that cares about Europe. We want release dates too!
January 17th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
finally an hour long video. Watched the whole thing and loved it. Would love to see more Points like this one. Did have one question: Is the new Midnight Brown album still in the works?
January 17th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
If I shove my nose into the top right vent on my laptop it smells a bit like burning wires too - though in that case I’m sure the culprit is the graphics card, since it gets nice and toasty before the fan decides it should kick in to keep my entire desk from catching fire.
Awesome episode. You made me want to dig out my Sega CD and play Sewer Shark.
January 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
awesome points show i dont mind the full hour or 45 minutes it was entertaining.. im glad im not the only one with the dualshock 3 that smells like burning electronics …..whew!!! hope you get the ps3 fixed
January 17th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Nice, hour long points episode. Its pretty funny how you have gotten about 2,000 points since the last report and you managed to give the people their 1 hour long points report that they have been waiting for (i am one of those people). I will definitely check out the podcast on IGN. It should be sweet. Im just throwing this out there but i’m still waiting for that friend request lol. At least add me long enough to check out my bio or motto. Gamertag-norton123
Whats so funny about peace love and understanding???-Elvis Costello
January 17th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
This is a fantastic format, and a good length. I would love to watch more hour-long videos every 2 or 3 weeks or whatever is feasible.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I’m going to echo the sentiments of boiling it into an audio only/mp3/podcast deal if you’re going to keep them a hour long. Still, great to hear you spouting about whatever you come across.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Hey Jeff,
I love the 60-minute format because the more J.G. content I can get, the better. But you don’t need the video if you don’t want to do it. I turned it on, muted my TV, and played the 360, and just listened. If you’d rather just do an MP3 instead, that’s cool. For your own sake! And 60 minutes is great. I don’t think I could even talk for 60 minutes about something I loved if I wanted to. That’s why you’re the best, man. And that remark about “Poker Genitalia” had me LMFAO!
January 17th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Tim and Eric is an awesome show and it’s cool seeing Bob Odenkirk and David Cross appear on it since I think the new show owes a debt to that earlier, equally brilliant one.
I had a few other thoughts but I’ve forgotten them. I’ll have to take notes next time.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
WATCHED THE WHOLE THING!
My only suggestion is you release it in an mp3 or wav format so I can listen to it on my ipod. What I use to with The HotSpot was play some crappy game I needed achievements in (In this case BioShock) turned the sound off on the game and turned the volume up on my computer and listened to the show. That’s what I did here but I don’t have the ability to pause with the space bar or to close the window and have it remember where I was in the show when I re-open.
Also today I didn’t do much but I usually go to school and like to listen to podcasts during my commute or free block. It’d be nice if you could do this but I’m not sure how you’ll host/record it anyway. Maybe you can start the Gertsmann Podcast and feature other friends of the industry like when Alex Navarro just sat in the background for the entire episode. But instead of just sitting there let him talk and such.
I like the humor combined with knowledge and opinions you’ve brought to “POINTS!” although it’s not so much “POINTS!” as it is “Jeff’s life, with an intro about points.” To couplet your long video I made a long response. I like the questions segment, everything’s good. Keep it up, hopefully you’ll get a real job or who knows maybe this blog will become your job, I know nothing about the industry though so that alst suggestion was probably really stupid.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Stop making music on a toy, kid!
January 17th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Hey Jeff,
I personally have no problem with the length. The longer the better really, but I think I’d prefer two half-hour videos than one hour one.
Regularity.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Question: Can you give us a tour of your video game collection? Cya Jeff.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Nice, a full hour.
Nice to see another Points! report.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Great show Jeff. Any news on the job front you can talk about???
January 17th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
So then will there be no patch/update for rumble support on PS3 gam
