In the Dark
January 5th, 2008 at 12:25 am
I’m writing from the couch, where I’m laying down. With my phone. In the dark. In case it wasn’t all over the national news, there were some really heavy rain storms around the bay area. My power went out around 3PM or so and has been out ever since.
A couple friends of mine are playing Magic the Gathering by flashlight in the other room. I try to keep this a Magic-free home, because Magic is for jerks, but one’s flying home tomorrow.
My roommate Brendan and I are talking about making a break for it, leaving these guys here, and going to Taco Bell, because apparently only the east side of town is broken.
Or, to shorten this entry to two words: I’m bored.
[UPDATE] After finally giving up on trying to do anything exciting and going to sleep around 4:30AM, the power finally came on just before 5, waking everyone back up just long enough to turn off all the lights that were suddenly on and turn on the heat to stop the freezing. As I expected, I managed to pick up a cold during all this. So I’m pretty pumped about that.

You know, I am too. Really bored. Since you’re bored you’ll probably read this so: Hi Jeff. How are you?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:11 am
Ain’t no power outage on the west side! We’re bathing in electricity like it was…um…water! Take that, chumps!
January 5th, 2008 at 1:45 am
ya that storm was pretty frightening but my power went out for only 6 seconds. since i live in petaluma i guess we might have a backup generator or something idk.
Also i hope you have gotten over leaving gamespot. still i miss you and rich. ahh good times good times. would love to play you sometime in cod4. hope you have gotten power back by now.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:47 am
OK the important stuff here, did you go to Taco Bell and what did you have Jeff?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:48 am
I know that feeling! The winter out here in MN gets so cold is freezes my DSL line and drags my internet to a crawl. So i can barely surf the web let alone play XBL =( I’m bored to.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:37 am
Hey Jeff, sounds like you need a generator! My brother bought one this year, just in case… well who knows. This thing lasts for ages and if you are lucky the noisy engine and the dvd-drive of your 360 will cancel each other out
Best regards
Stefan

At 3:30AM we finally made it out of the house. I got bean and cheese burritos. Brendan got tostadas. Scott got something stupid.
AND NOW YOU KNOW!
New estimate for power coming back is like 6AM. We saw a bunch of power company dudes standing over an open hole in the street. They all looked confused.
January 5th, 2008 at 4:27 am
THE POWER IS NOT FLOWING THROUGH THIS HOLE. WHAT THE HELL. SOMEONE CALL THE PRESIDENT. AND THE BADDUDES. I THINK THIS COULD BE THE WORK OF DRAGONNINJA!!!!!1

Sounds like it sucks. I live out on the west coast in canada in the country, power outages up to a week out here, since it takes the cable companies forever to repair all the lines. Usually when the power goes out we head into the city and hang out at the malls. I hope the power’s back on for ya soon!
January 5th, 2008 at 5:57 am
taco bell.. aw man dont make me hungry
im wishing my power would go out, so i wouldnt have to to do my homework
that way i can play games and watch tv instead!
oh wait..
January 5th, 2008 at 6:39 am
The only think worth eating at Taco Bell right now is the Cheesy Gordita Crunch. If I could live off of those and not die, I totally would.
January 5th, 2008 at 7:17 am
Learn to play Magic if you’re that bored dude
It’s an awesaome card game and it’s certainly not only for “jerks”.
January 5th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Pull out the old Shadowrun board.
January 5th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Keep the faith in these times of trial, brother.
January 5th, 2008 at 9:14 am
I know! Work on your album! You know what I’m talking about.
January 5th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Play with your psp!!!!!!!!!!
January 5th, 2008 at 9:29 am
YEAH! Magic is for Jerks… in this part of the web we roll YuGiOh street deep.!
Taco Bell sounds cool, I wish I could eat one for the last time, in this place their is no Taco Bell, the food-chain apparently went out of buisness since no one ate that type of cuisine. Their is a Chilli´s and I´ve heard thats the closest to a Taco Bell I´ll get around here.
January 5th, 2008 at 10:00 am
You could have used the Magic cards to start a fire in an empty coffee can in your living room and told the Magic fools it was for survival. If they didn’t believe you, I would have suggested offering to let them eat you… In times of crisis, great men rise to the occasion.
January 5th, 2008 at 10:09 am
I feel your pain jeff, I to have been stuck in the presence of magic the gathering.
OH and was that new midnight brown music playing during the beginning trivia of the latest On the spot? SO looking forward to the next album

Get a job :P.
Don’t take it badly Jeff but this will get you out of your boredom, look for any job. Since you’ve worked so long as a videogame editor you have a lot of experience and a lot of opportunities in the videogame journalism world.
Take a chance!

Weather is crazy sometimes. I live in tampa, and it was like 29 degrees here the other day, it was horrible, people perished, things froze. Fortunetely it’s 75 and sunny today.
btw- jeff we need some vids, funny pics, and a jeff-cast.
January 5th, 2008 at 11:16 am
boredom is quite boring, I agree, or do I? something to think about while your bored
January 5th, 2008 at 11:46 am

January 5th, 2008 at 12:28 pm

January 5th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Power is overrated.
So Jeff, Warner supports Blu-Ray. Do you care? What’s your take?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Glad you got your power back! Now you can do some gaming!
January 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

January 6th, 2008 at 7:31 am
You could have all played dungeons and dragons together instead! lol.
January 6th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Haha Brendan always makes me laugh that time you brought him on the show
January 6th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Y’all have done a really nice job of breaking San Francisco since I left. Oil spills, that 6.0 earthquake, Barry Bonds, a certain website’s managerial awesomeness, crazy weather, tiger maulings… nice work!
I was going to make a crack about you turning on the heat, but then I checked your current temp. Brutal. It’s supposed to be 60 and sunny here this week…
January 7th, 2008 at 8:59 am
I also have HD and BD… Sounds like a creepy mixture of diseases doesn’t it? Anyway… I personally think that these “exclusive” deals are going to alienate almost everyone. Most can’t and won’t buy both BD and HD… And probably won’t choose either knowing that they won’t be able to watch everything you can with a standard DVD player. That being said, one format has to go away before 70% of the population gives a crap. Basically, I guess I agree with Jeff. P.s. Your power killing storm came here to Nevada and I’m looking at a foot of snow outside!!! lol.
January 7th, 2008 at 9:03 am
That kid complaining about 29 degs… Lol. This morning here in Nevada it was 2 degs… Wish I was in Tampa warming up.
January 9th, 2008 at 11:33 am
This is why you keep your DS charged.
