Always Bet on Duke

December 19th, 2007 at 11:47 am

In case you were looking for more proof that the end of the world is upon us, 3D Realms followed up on yesterday’s news and delivered a Duke Nukem Forever teaser trailer.

Makes for a great teaser and the characters look pretty good, especially the growling pig-guy. Contains dialogue from Duke himself, which you absolutely need. Hmm… I wonder if they’re having that guy record new voice clips as they go, or if they just had, like, one big voice session ten years ago and now they’re building a game around those words… Either way, look for it to hit shelves in 2013. Wait, will we even have shelves in 2013?

OK, it seems like the people involved with DNF are serious this time and will actually put this game out in 2008. To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m ready to live in a world where Duke Nukem Forever is a reality, rather than the improbable dreams of people who have been living in a bunker somewhere in Texas for the past decade. Whatever happens, I really hope that, someday, the full DNF development story can be told. A special edition release containing all the old stuff they’ve thrown out over the years, including playable versions from the past, would be really amazing.

I still say it’s never coming out. They got serious a year or two ago (2005?) and said that it would come out on PC, PS2, and Xbox for the holidays and we all know that it didn’t.

I predict this is going to be the same. 2008 will come and go and Duke Nukem Forever won’t come out. Then in late 2009 they’ll say it’s coming out in 2010 and the cycle will repeat.

Why do I feel like this will be another Daikatana?

Gotta love this site for the Duke delay facts

  3. GeekyDadNo Gravatar Says:

    Meh…more Duke Nukem? Why?

  4. Jason ENo Gravatar Says:

I will have to see footage of the game that looks near complete before i believe DNF will really come out.

Teaser Trailer – Strippers = Disappointed

  6. Jacki JinxNo Gravatar Says:

    Duke Nukem is serious business.

Is that seriously 10 years of work? I hope not.

  7. DanNo Gravatar Says:

    Im calling a 5.5 here.

  8. GUSNo Gravatar Says:

Something is very wrong with the site’s layout.

  9. Josh BNo Gravatar Says:

Ahhh Duke, how you have been the butt of so many gaming jokes over the past decade

  10. ThomasNo Gravatar Says:

    the graphics are bad

  11. Moti BiranNo Gravatar Says:

Is it just me or does he looks a little like a beefed up Bruce Willis?

  12. Steven BeynonNo Gravatar Says:

I wonder if I should bother building that bunker in my backyard if/when that game comes out.
Didn’t 3-D Realms get like a budget increase of $500,000 to finish DNF one year to finish it? I really don’t think this game will be relevant anymore, I don’t beleive the corny tough-guy, Bruis Willis one-liners work anymore…

  13. Chris ManganoNo Gravatar Says:

I expect that if it does come out it will fairly medicore like Prey and very shortly after the hype (generated only by the curiousity of the story behind the game) dies down the game will end up in the bargain bin just like it too.

  14. Banana KidNo Gravatar Says:

Hey–in a world where Team Fortress 2 and Prey are a reality, I’m willing to believe anything. Always bet on Duke, baby!

  15. GUSNo Gravatar Says:

I just want them to release this game so they can make a new Rise of The Triad and a new Duke Nukem game without the Forever stigma.

It’s now a race to see which game comes out first: DNF or Alan Wake.

  17. MasonNo Gravatar Says:

Always bet on Duke……to be way too late. At this rate, the game will come out he’ll roll out on a wheelchair 90 years old. “It’s time to….*takes breath from oxygen tank*……kick ass…*cough*…….and gum applesauce” *Raises gun* “GAAARGGHHH my chest!” *Has heart attack, dies*

  18. CarstenNo Gravatar Says:

This game looks ridiculously bad. They could have updated the look of the title, at least — I could do without remembering the lame teaser poster of Duke’s yesteryears.

  19. QuadrifoglioNo Gravatar Says:

That trailer made my week. I am seriously anticipating this game more than GTAIV after seeing the trailer and
I don’t know why but I just am but the very least they could do is add “It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I’m all out of gum!” Oh well, I guess I’ll do.

  20. BanzaiNo Gravatar Says:

Dukes hair is too short imo.

  21. SM2099No Gravatar Says:

You never loose when betting on Duke. I´m so ashmed to say but that trailer is just kick ass. It reminds me when I first played the game on the PS1. Which the game was really never the focal point, I ust bought it becuase I was a very hormonal pre-teen and heard a nightclub appeared in the game. :D

Dukes hair does need some fixing… but I hope they don´t go new Bionic Commnado with it. I´m not ready for a world with a Rastafari-esque Duke.

The trailer is well made though. I will give Berssard that. :S

Jeff… you must be jumping up and down with this… I can´t talk for everyone but I wish I could hear and/see some ranting about this. ;)

  22. NAMMYNo Gravatar Says:

I hope it gets delayed so you can give another rant, but yes, it would be interesting to see what they’ve come up with after almost a decade.
And the world will probably end the day after it’s released.

  23. SweepNo Gravatar Says:

    Duke WHO-kem?

  24. Dave H.No Gravatar Says:

So this is the new Gamespot… forget Duke Nukem, it’s Jeff Gertsmann Forever!!!

  25. Seraphim SanctumNo Gravatar Says:

    I want my 1:08 minutes back…

  26. DariusNo Gravatar Says:

wow that trailer was badass, but i still think it’s gonna get canned, i mean why is it taking so long…

  27. Aaron-GNo Gravatar Says:

Jeff, I think the world will end win this game does come out. I mean it has too.

  28. Josh MNo Gravatar Says:

The world will implode before this game sees the light of day!

  29. Kevin L.No Gravatar Says:

To even see a trailer of this game is surprising. I still find the acronym of DNF for the game funny. DNF in racing stands for Did Not Finish, which so far it’s holding true to.

  30. ZennyXNo Gravatar Says:

    Hail to the KING BABY!!!!!!!!!

  31. JonasNo Gravatar Says:

I’m betting $100 that they’ve been on a beach somewhere for 10+ years and now realize they need to put something together a bit quick.

Sucks that they got the idea first. I’d love to do that.

  32. JonathanNo Gravatar Says:

    That seems cool

  33. CarstenNo Gravatar Says:

Is it me, or does the game look rendered in a heavily-modified Doom 3 engine?

    Sooooo last gen. :-p

  34. Jacki JinxNo Gravatar Says:

Your mother was last gen =o

  35. Jim McBrideNo Gravatar Says:

I had about given up hope…The Duke didn’t even make the top ten in the last couple Vaporware awards. But I played the first one and still want more….and will be waiting until it arrives.

  36. yukineNo Gravatar Says:

I would buy it even if it turns out to be crappy, it’d be like owning a piece of video game history.

  37. Jeremy E,No Gravatar Says:

I do believe this trailer is the work of a certain lab mouse bent on taking over the world. NARF.

  38. SarahNo Gravatar Says:

“I this time we mean it! …pinky swear!”

  39. JimmyNo Gravatar Says:

Yea this DN4E thing has gone so far for me that I´m not even caring the slightest over this trailer since my brain has completely blocked any signals that may indicate excitement. The teaser should have had some boobs in it tho. like a flash of a stripper or something. Thats what i missed in it.

  40. Red5112No Gravatar Says:

this may be a good or bad thing, but that game looks pretty lame.

  41. SM2099No Gravatar Says:

WAIT! Is it just me of does this trailer or maybe the game have this weird Die Hard 4.0 feeling to it?

I may be hallucinating things. :?

  42. Mike HeadleyNo Gravatar Says:

Duke Nukem Forever… DNF …Did Not Finish!

  43. WeaselNo Gravatar Says:

Haha, well, I must commend them for the trailer. Looks kick-ass in it’s own right, but, damn, I think it might be too late for this game. I mean, it’s 2008. Is Duke Nukem really going to have the same effect now as it did back then? I LOVED it back then, but, they’re really going to have to step things up for this one.

  44. TeeDeeNo Gravatar Says:

I’ve been waiting for this game since i saw the E3 trailer 6 years ago. When it comes out i will buy it, finish it, and then, maybe, finally leave this planet in peace. ;)

  45. Lord of UltimaNo Gravatar Says:

I don’t think this game is even required to be good, it has such a history that I’m going to purchase it regardless – kinda like The Marine with John Cena.

  46. Person on internetNo Gravatar Says:

it is like a somebody has take a time machine to 98′ with its shooter frenzy and then, stolen the ideas and put it in a modern game engine. Either that or the duke guys where survivalist, and bunkered down for the year 2k and after ten years they got bored, opened the compound (vault) door and decided to release the damn game that we have been waiting for.

DNF did not stand for did not finish after all.

  47. Jacki JinxNo Gravatar Says:

To correct the misinformation being spread here, DNF does not stand for “did not finish,” but “do not finish.”

    Take heed, world. DNF! DNF…

  48. SquallLionNo Gravatar Says:

sorry to write here but I didn’t found a review about ‘Kane & Lynch : Dead Men’
(sorry for my english but I’m french)

I’m so sorry for you about EIDOS did after your review of ‘Dead Men’.
you were right to say the truth on this game.

    courage!

  49. Kyle CNo Gravatar Says:

Seriously though, does anyone want this game to come out at this point? I truly want it to stay in development forever. Duke Nukem Forever being released would be like finding out that Santa isn’t real.

I mean, c’mon, with ‘forever’ in the title and the acronym ‘DNF’ how could it be any more perfect??

  50. RyvvnNo Gravatar Says:

Gonna say it, NOT as good as the 2001 teaser.

“Duke, the situation has deteriorated, it appears they have the President. The earth defense force has been compromised and I’m afraid you can’t trust anyone.

  51. YukoAshoNo Gravatar Says:

They need to do what they did with Prey – Kill development for a few years, then let a more competent studio do the game.
