“New” TV Carnage DVD Ships This Week
December 17th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Just got an e-mail from the fine people (person?) that produce TV Carnage. They’ve just started taking pre-orders for a DVD version of OUCH TELEVISION MY BRAIN HURTS, which is actually the first of the five volumes. OK, maybe I’d better back up for a second.
TV Carnage is amazing. This Canadian gentleman–who is also the face of that “whudafxup” anti-smoking campaign–takes some of the most mind-melting moments of television he can acquire, chops them up into their purest, most-damaging form, and then cuts them together into a great big video collage–without the whole thing becoming some big masturbatory film-school student piece with a heavy “message” or anything like that. I submitted a clip that ended up appearing in A Sore For Sighted Eyes, the fifth volume. It features a televangelist that morphs into a fighter jet.
While I can’t speak to the quality of this new re-edit, I will say that the other three DVDs are most certainly worth owning. Each one is a life-changing event. Considering the original release of OUCH was pretty straightforward and not edited as tightly as the newer stuff, I have to imagine the new release will be a huge improvement.
Anyway, I pre-ordered the new disc and I can’t wait. Hopefully it’s got director’s commentary on it. Watching them with the commentary on makes it a completely different experience.
But don’t take my word for it, check out this clip for a brief taste. Then check out this one.
Or try out the official site.

Hey Jeff,
sorry for posting this under a completely unrelated blog post, but i couldn’t find your damn adress. I was just wondering what your general thoughts on Assassins Creed are, i’d be interested to know them.
Thanks

Hey Jeff. Sorry for the irrelevant comment placement.
Nice to see that “Jeff Gerstmann is Still Alive” and kicking too I hope, Thanks for taking the time to shove together this new and much better blog, I loved reading the previous ones from the other place you used to potter about at.
Glad also am I to see that you choose WordPress thus allowing for RSS. Now I can sit back and get your latest ramblings with a lot less effort. Tar.
I take it video updates such as the points report may be uploaded to YouTube. Now I can see them on my iPod Touch. Jeff Gerstmann is Still Alive and making his blog experience much more modern.

That was crazy. How if fox hunting banned but a little kid can shoot a squirrel. And that the girl in the beauty show and on the chat show was insane. I godda say Americans are crazy, no offense.

Gus, I recommend Casual Fridays as a first installment. That was my first. After watching it a hundred times or so, I knew I needed the entire collection.

Hey Jeff, while its great that your blogging and without taking offense to this can you do something about the ghetto layout?
December 17th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I hate you for not telling me about this sooner.
December 17th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Dude that was baffling and disturbing, yet somehow awesome. Keep your HANDS off’a me.

Hey Jeff it’s great to hear your still alive and kicking and moving on for the future, but allow me to go back into the past for sec if your still interested, It was on the podcast a few months ago probably, when EA gave some Sims game to the kids at One Laptop Per Child and you said you would buy one of those $100 laptops if you had the chance or something like that, and hey guess what i found out how you can get it. I was looking through my subscriptions a few days ago on youtube and saw it and thought oh snap this was probably what you were talking about, so anyway if your still interested check out the vid http://youtube.com/watch?v=IeTxR-aeyUw
Also again its great that your back and blogging again, sucks about whatever was going on in your personal business but that isn’t the internets business so we should just keep to ourselves, and hey do some game reviews about new games that your playing I’d love to read your reviews, so in conclusion peace out from the east coast and keep on doing your thing.

Thanks for the tip Jeff, but now I have looked at my funds and saw 90 bucks that needed to be spent so I am going to get the whole collection.

Hey there Jeff. I read your blog about the Demo for Burnout Paradise and I have played it and was a little scared that the devs might mess up the game with the open world type of game. I mean I have played the demo and I thought it was pretty annoying trying to find what you were susposed to do next. So what do you think do you like the open ended new feel or would you have liked another Burnout just like the last 4 but with insane graffx and crashes?

Wow thats so wierd. I dont know if to laugh or just be totally disgusted by the Squirrel melts and the lady doing them. I think that goes for most of that material. I just find it all so wierd its not even funny to me..just wierd… I dont really get how to watch stuff like that to make it funny. Its awful really bad television, but not “haha” funny. But maybe thats just me. Guess its just as well as I dont feel like importing DVD´s from another region and buying a DVD player to handle them at the moment. Still. TV in general is interesting and I guess its kinda funny how insanely bad TV has gotten. Guess this is why I dont watch TV outside of Cartoon Network, Disney Channel & Discovery anymore.

Squirrel melts? SQUIRREL MELTS? That lady was the weirdest person I have ever saw! The stuff that people put on TV… I am intrigued by this collection. I’m out of the US, we don’t have this kind of weird stuff on TV.
Thanks for the info.

And here I was thinking that only in The Netherlands we had quality television. I am going to buy me a hunting rifle to shoot some squirrels for Christmas.

A televangelist that morphs into a fighter jet should have been the plot of Transformers.

The clips blew my mind. I don’t really know how to comment on that. Imagine the impression you had when watching the Dream Skincare ad for the 1st time. That’s it. Anyway still waiting for your picture playing the Rockband drums sitting at the edge of your bed. Make it good coz it’s gonna be my wallpaper.

I don’t really know why am I posting this but here it goes.
I was(n’t) a jeffrolic, some times you seemed a nice person and other times just a person that messed out with my favourite game… but the truth is that I couldn’t help watchin you on camera, even on those 45min long point reports…
The reason why I’m writing to you is because I’m about to do something INSANE… a video podcast in Portuguese, well, in fact, I’ll be the first person doing a dedicated video podcast about video games in this country… and after messing with the lights, the sound, the editing software I seated in front of the camera and… MAN that’s Awfull! I feel me very unconfortable and I don’t knw how to take the nervous away, you seemed natural and relaxed, that made me realize that you were indeed a good host! Many congratulations for that!
I’ll be doing the podcast alone, in fact I’m doing it alone for my forum who has 2.000 members and I’ll put the podcast on youtube and Brasil, I even mounted a mini-studio in the living room with a “green” screen for transparency and that shits, if things go well I’d love to have your participation one day, so I thing this is a pre-invite, the podcast is totaly “free” from a commercial stand point, no sponsors at all.
Best of luck to you man!
Best regards from a Portuguese crazy gammer.
PS: Sorry my french.. and english.

The clip of the conjoined twins was quite traumatizing, actually. Quite traumatizing indeed.

Ive heard of this guy and have actually seen some stuff of his…its pretty amazing stuff. I still dont like those anti smoking commercials though…I don’t smoke but still they are lame.

If only Jeremy Beadle was still with us…
(It’s a UK thing)
December 19th, 2007 at 12:44 am
mmmmmmmm…. Squirrel Melts, I call it the Goodness!
December 19th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Since watching those videos two days ago, I have not been able to get the beauty pageant clip out of my head. So deeply, deeply wrong. I want to set it to the old America’s Funniest Home Videos theme. You know, the one that goes “America, America, this is you.”
December 26th, 2007 at 9:44 am
I threw up a little bit in my mouth during that second clip. Thanks Jeff! (just pretend I’m smiling with a big thumbs up and a glint off of my tooth)
